Hello Fellow Engineers!

Welcome back to the only newsletter that combines engineering, giveaways, and a completely justified hatred of architects. 😎

Beyond that, we’ve got:

  • A medieval city builder finally escaping early access (just like the peasants). 🏰

  • A PlayStation indie sale that will absolutely destroy your backlog. 🎮

  • A magical bridge review of the Glenfinnan Viaduct.

Oh, and Paddy found a stick. 🐶 Stick around (pun intended) and read on!

Let’s dive into it 👇

If you came here from this week's video, you already know—I’m giving away 10 copies of GridRoad! 🏗️🚦

👾 Indie Game of the Week:

I played Balatro so hard that math had to sit down and take a deep breath. 😂 Five-of-a-kind? Illegal. Multipliers stacked to oblivion? Also illegal. But somehow, I made it all the way to round 29 before the game finally stopped me.

Come watch me break poker in Part 5!

It’s time for a Bridge Review!

Ah yes, the Glenfinnan Viaduct—the bridge so iconic it single-handedly carried an entire generation’s Hogwarts acceptance dreams. But let’s put the wizardry aside and talk real engineering (the important stuff).

Engineering Feats:

  • 21 massive concrete arches spanning 416 meters, because steel is for bridges that actually want to rust.

  • Built without reinforcement in 1898, proving that engineers back then had zero fear and maximum confidence.

  • Handcrafted before modern construction equipment—because who needs cranes when you have sheer willpower and an unhealthy disregard for workplace safety?

Architectural Flair:

  • Smooth, sweeping curves? I’ll allow it, but only because it improves load distribution.

  • No pointless decoration, no weird abstract nonsense—just pure, functional excellence. Architects clearly didn’t get the memo on this one (thankfully).

Final Score: A solid 9.6/10.

Functional, famous, and zero architectural meddling. If it had a bit more structural overkill, it could’ve hit a perfect 10—but hey, no bridge is perfect (except maybe the Millau Viaduct, but we’ll get to that another day).

Would I trust this bridge with my life? Absolutely. Would I trust it if an architect designed it? Not a chance.
